Ruchira Kamboj, 58, a 1987 Indian foreign service officer, was previously an Indian Ambassador to Bhutan and in June was appointed as an Indian permanent representative for the United Nations in New York, replacing the Ambassador T S Tirumah.

He began his diplomatic journey in Paris, where he was placed as the third secretary at the Indian Embassy in France from 1989-1991.
From Paris, he returned to Delhi where he worked as a secretary at the Europe West Division of the Minister of External Affairs from 1991-96. From 1996-1999, he served in Mauritius as the first secretary (economy and commercial) and the head of the Chancellor at the Indian High Commission in Port Louis. MS Kamboj served as the High Commissioner of India to South Africa, with accreditation together with the Kingdom of Lesotho from July 2017 to March 2019. He bears the accusation as an Indian envoy for Bhutan on May 17, 2019.
