South African captain Dean Elgar revealed that he had a hard conversation with Kagiso Rabada for his appearance.
South Africa Speedster Kagiso Rabada enjoyed an impressive sightseeing in the second test of the series against India in Johannesburg. Rabada took six goals in the game – three in each round – because Proteas enrolled the seven goal victory that flattened the series at The Wanderers.
Being one of the leading Pacers in South Africa XI, Rabada has been through a coarse patch in early 2021 during the series against Pakistan, but made a good comeback before the next half. In the ongoing series, Rabada has taken 13 goals in two matches so far.
During the post-match presentation after victory in Wanderers, South African captain Dean Elgar said that “sometimes kg needs a rocket” and “something happens behind the scenes but we will not discuss it.”
Elgar, during interaction with the media, talk in detail about his conversation with Rabada.
“I went to Kg and I said to him, ‘You are a very respected Cricketer in our group and at this time I don’t think you are running yourself very well,” Elgar said.
“I know what is able to do kg. When kg has his tail, no bowler is better than him and I have experienced some people who have become part of this team. It is a good chat.
“I could have a chat with kg and he responded very well. He took it, he let him process and think about it last night and then he returned the next day with a scenario for me.”
Elgar has faced Rabada after the first test after he became faltering on the first day but ended with seven goals.
“He (Rabada) is the person who comes to me and says what we are talking about: I crashed into a nail in the head,” Elgar said.
“Kg has that attitude, and he has a desire and he wants a bowl and he wants to contribute massively. You must use it as captain.”
Skipper Proteas said Rabada “Sometimes it can be a little too relaxed and he needs to understand that his appearance in the field and his appearance in the dressing room is very large.”
Boucher Mark Mark South Africa also revealed “a little spark” needed to get Rabada to the zone.
“There are certain people – Dale Steyn is one of them – which at certain times in his career requires harsh words behind closed doors to bring the best of him,” said Boucher ‘.
“Kg, surprisingly, solving matches open for us. There is a little spark in the dressing room; maybe it’s needed to take it to that room.
“And we know when kg like it is difficult to keep the ball away from him. But also you want it to your side rather than the opposition team.
“There are fair words that are said and I think he took it on the boat and we hope we can put it in that sweet point again for the next test because it can only read for us.”
The third and last test began at Cape Town on January 11.
